For the past year, more people than ever before have had their lives changed, remodeled, turned upside down, utterly transformed. While things like working from home have provided some comfort and allowed people to avoid long hours in rush hour commutes, it comes with some other challenges. You may be juggling home-schooling, hybrid schooling, and your job.  Or maybe you’ve been a full-time parent and are struggling with having kids home far more than ever before.   Many people are reporting having more anxiety than ever before. “According to a new public opinion poll released today by the American Psychiatric Association (APA), 62% of Americans feel more anxious than they did at this time last year. That marks a sizable increase over APA polls of the past three years, in which the number has ranged between 32% and 39%”.  Fortunately, here are 6 tips that you can follow that can help you to manage stress from home.

Having a Routine = LESS STRESS

One of the reasons that people feel anxious in this current environment is that they no longer have the same routine that they had before. Instead of waking up, catching a train, and spending 8 hours in the office, you now wake up and head straight to your home office. While there are benefits to this, having less of a routine can add stress as well. Because of this, you should look for ways to create your routine. This could help you have a schedule that you can follow, and it will give you more of a sense of control.

Massage = AHHH!

When you want to find ways to manage your anxiety when you are home, investing in a massage chair is a great option.  While you may not be able to go in and see a professional masseuse as often as you want, there are some excellent alternatives. One great option would be to invest in your very own massaging chair as it can provide you with the benefits of a massage from the comforts of your own home.  Massage chairs are pretty expensive, but if you’ve got the funds, get one!

If you can’t afford a massage chair, there are some great options.  There are some pretty affordable handheld massagers to use at home.  Even a young child can give you a massage with any of these handheld massagers:

If you’ve got the time and the money to get a hands-on massage, you’ll be so glad you did.  There’s Swedish, Shiatsu, Hot Stone, Aromatherapy, Deep Tissue, and Reflexology – so many choices.  When you receive a hands-on massage, it can help to release stress off of your body. While you may not be able to go in and see a professional masseuse as often as you want, the handheld options are some excellent alternatives.

Deep Breathing

Yogic breathing can go a long way in reducing stress and anxiety.  But it takes practice and discipline to sit and breathe.  If you’ve got the discipline, it only takes a few minutes to do centering breath.  How to do Centering Breath to reduce stress and anxiety:

  1. Sit upright and make sure you are comfortable.
  2. Breath in deeply through the nose to a count of 3 or 4.  You can work on expanding your breaths as you master this breathing technique.
  3. Exhale through the nose to a count of 6 or 8.  Exhale twice as long as you inhale.  This stimulates endorphin production.  Repeat 10-20 times.

If you don’t have the discipline or the knowledge, there’s a new product on the market that is affordable and it comes with aromatherapy scents.  CalmiGo | Calming Drug-Free Device for Immediate Stress Relief
